Meet the Band

Lead Vocalist, Flute, Congas, Keyboard

Stacey Murray-Sosa

Stacey has been involved with music her whole life. She started in choir, but got involved in marching band in high school and college. She taught elementary music for 13 years and then went into instructional coaching, then instructional design. Her band career started with Uptown Moonlighting and now Knox Boombox. Knox Boombox Rocks!

Bass Guitar and Vocals

Steve Caron

Steve started playing bass guitar at 15. He played in bands during HS and College in the Brockton MA area. He minored in composition and arranging in college obtaining a degree. He also studied classical double bass and performed with several local orchestras in MA and ME after college including the Southeast Philharmonic and Bowdoin College Orchestra.

Steve has been bassist for many bands over a 40 year period in MA, CT and TN, His experience here in E TN includes performing with The French Connection, 3CD, Trent James Band, Then Again, Caron, Owens, Sise, The Hitmen, Private Stock and Uptown Moonlighting.

Drums

Ben Landers

Ben Landers started playing drums at age 12. His father, a swing-era drummer, taught him a few things and helped launch a lifelong interest. Ben played in several garage bands in his early years. He was
playing in dive bars and beer joints before he had a driver’s license or was of legal age. He joined his high school jazz ensemble where their 15-piece

group won several top honors and a statewide championship. He played with several “hair bands” during his years as a student at Middle Tennessee
State University and after college he did a southeastern tour with an RCA recording group City Streets. His full time career took him to Los Angeles, Chicago and the Nashville area where he made fast friends with working musicians in several bands. Since moving to the Knoxville he has co-founded and played with The NorthShore Band, Private Stock, Uptown Moonlighting and now Knox BoomBox. All were special and unique music projects, but the recently formed BoomBox will outshine them all with solidmusicians, a great popping song list and desire to entertain.

Guitar and Lead Vocals

Fred Schultheis

Fred started playing ukelele at about age 10, guitar since age 13, and started playing in local bands in Evansville, IN at about age 18. He paid his way through college mainly playing in a regional band called The Pits. He continued to play in bands after graduation until moving to Knoxville in the late 90’s.

Life and career took over at that point until about 2020 during which time he continued to play guitar with very occasional gigs. Starting in 2021 he finally got introduced to the Knoxville music scene performing as a solo acoustic act, at local jam nights and with Retrospect until joining Knox Boombox in 2023. Fred also teaches guitar at the Joy of Music school and recommends all who find joy through music support that organization.
